I bought
this in Aug '94 for £475. It was 12 years old, had done 96K miles
and had plenty of rust, but the engine and transmission were smooth and
quiet so I took a chance on a years cheap transport. I'd fancied one of
these from when they were new, but I had to wait 'till they were 12 years
old before I could afford one! It was never going to be a long term project,
it was too rough for that. But I loved driving it so much that when I did
get rid of it, I started looking for a Supra.
I only had 2 problems with it during that year; one day when extending the electric aerial, it didn't stop when it got to the top and fell into pieces on the ground (a piece of welding rod jammed in the hole proved to be a sufficient substitute). And on new years day morning while staying with relatives, I locked the keys in the car with the engine running while I was scraping ice off the windows (real smart!). I ended up forcing the lock with a screwdriver, and using the car for another 6 months without being able to lock the drivers door. Obviously the car wasn't even slightly attractive to thieves as no-one ever touched it! After a year I passed it to a mate for £50 who wanted the engine and drive train for a kit project. (a week later he changed his mind and sold it on) |
